Question about a blue screen appearing on Windows Xp asking to "check file system c:":?

Does anyone know what this was. IT has already run through the check, but I was concerned as to what the problem was, but never figured it out.

started out by saying :

Checking file system on c:

The type of the file systen is NTFS

One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue.

Windows will now check the disk

CHDKSK is veryfiying files (stage 1 of 3)

CHDSK is veryifying indexes (stage 2 of 3)

CHDSK is veryfifying security descriptions (stage 3 of 3)

then it said something at the bottom saying something about repairing the security something.

Does anyone know what this was? everything seems fine now, but I was just wondering if this was a routine thing for Windows XP or was there a problem that occured?

If so, how could it have happened?

Thanks for your answers!

This is windows running Check Disk. THIS IS FINE, great really. It means windows detected the problem and was able to fix it on its own (the worst is when it has a problem and doesn't run this, you have to do it yourself). Don't Worry. This isn't a routine thing, but it means that the problem was caught and fixed. (BTW a ton of things could've caused this, none of them were probably your fault so don't worry about it)
Reply:you have a error on on eof the disks and windows is repairing it, always let it run through. if you have attatched a memory card or another hard drive it will do it for that aswell.
Reply:When Windows starts, it checks the disks for what's called the "dirty flag". If the flag is "clean", it sets the flag "dirty" and boots. When you close windows, one of the last things it does is mark the flag "clean". Next time it boots, the flag is clean and it continues booting.

If you shut the computer off, or it crashes, the flag is still marked dirty, so the computer checks the disk on boot.
Reply:XP found a problem with your file system and repaired it. You might want to figure out what caused the problem to begin with. Make sure you have antivirus software, malware removal software, and a good registry cleaner installed and running on your system.

This can also be caused by brownouts causing the system to reboot while it's writing the cache to the disk. It can also happen if the electrical power is shut off such as during bad weather and storms.
Reply:This is the standard disk check which Windows XP will do if the computer was not shut down properly.
