I have finally found a folder on my C drive that is causing problems on my laptop during start up. It is a virus or something, I cannot really tell the difference since I really am a basic computer person. Anyways I was trying to delete the folder and I kept getting a alert saying I did not have access to this file. I know I didnt put it there and I know it is the source of my problems since when I opened it my computer had the same problem. Is there any other way for me to get rid of it besides going to a expert, which I will eventually if i cant solve it. Thanks
Help with unwanted file on C drive that I cannot remove?
That is a pain in the ascii ... ok what you need to do is go to http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Unl... and download the free program called Unlocker. With a simple right click on the folder in question, you'll see the Unlock feature and once you click it, you'll get the option to rename or delete it.
Hope that helps you.
Reply:Hello,
Umm.. it wouldnt happen to be the folder
C:\System Volume Information\_restore#### would it?
If so, you dont need to mess with these folders. that is why it is secured so that "basic" computer user cannot mess with them and delete something that they are not supposed to delete.
If that is NOT the folder name that you are having trouble with, please tell us which one, and I am sure someone will know which one it is and what it is for and what is in that folder.
Hope this helps
Reply:haha, 3rd party software is not necessarily needed to delete the folder.
You'll have to enter Safe Mode, by pressing F8 repeatedly as your computer starts up.
Once in Safe Mode, enter the Task Manager Ctrl+Alt+Del to end any applications that are running in the background.
Experienced spyware removers will, cut a stubborn folder down to size, by deleting the unwanted files inside the folder, killing the process(s) and then finally removing the folder.
Good luck, cleaning out the junk,.
Reply:You could always try right-clicking it and un-checking the "read-only" box...
Reply:think twice before remove any files in C:drive. They might be systems file that cannot be deleted.
If you confirmed those not systems files, maybe you are not loggin as an administrator. Only administractor can delete some files.
Or are those files in the folders is the programs folders files [ that contain the execute files (extension for the files is ".exe") ] ? Then you need to go to
click to START -settings
control panel
Add %26amp; remove programs
A list of programs would be populated
Remove the programs that you want to delete
MAKE SURE you didn't remove the programm/applications that need for your windows to run
Hope it solve your problem.
